Anyone from Los Angeles and surrounding area? I’ll be giving a talk at Harvey Mudd College: Cartooning for Queerness – Wednesday 10/12, 12:15 pm! It’s open for everyone! RSVP here: http://tinyurl.com/cartooningforqueerness – PLEASE COME!
I will talk about my experience in creating comics for the LGBTQ demographic in my country, the difficulties in making comics that are appealing, funny and informative at the same time, how to work (or not) with stereotypes without limiting character’s personalities, how to be inclusive in creating realistic characters, and the balance between representation in my comics and artistic autonomy. In the and I will also present a brand new project I have been working on for the past few months!
See you there!
All my condolences to families and friends of those who were at #pulsenightclub. It is so sad that in the same day I got one more year in my life, 50 people had theirs taken in a homophobic act in Orlando. These things happen on a daily basis and systematically all over the globe. Homophobia doesn’t choose class, but it is even worse in lower class neighborhoods and racial minorities, a lot of times not making it to the news. I say systematically because politicians, religious fundamentalists, homophobic people in our families, offices, social circle who use hate speech or their prejudice disguised as “little jokes” to diminish lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, transgender, intersex and queer people are all part of the problem. And our blood is also in their hands.
Let us be strong and love each other.
